FUTR Appoints New Treasurer

In our annual meeting held June 3rd, Howard Manning was replaced as Treasurer by Randy Eichen. Howard has served as treasurer since FUTR's inception in 2002, but is relocating to Austin this summer.

Randy Eichen takes over the duties as Treasurer immediately.

May 30, 2006:

Due to an overwhelming number of equipment donations in the first two quarters of 2006, we are temporarily not able to accept donations of anything but (functional) new and used inkjet printers.

We need these to complete systems for placement. Until we can complete and place at least 20 computer systems we have no room for more donations.

Local Entrepreneur Brings GIs and Families Together

Thanks to a Plano entrepreneur, families of local GI's will soon be able to stay in touch with their loved ones overseas via email and Instant Messaging.

Warren Harris is owner of The Computer Wizard and Founder and President of FUTR.org. He was looking for a way to help our troops, when he hit upon an idea to redirect the output of his existing non-profit project to the families of deployed GI's.

For the past year, The Computer Wizard of Plano, in conjunction with the Foundation for Uniting Technology with Recipients, Inc. has taken donations of computer components, refurbished them and given complete computers to lower-income families in North Texas. More than 50 families in the Plano-Richardson area have benefited from this work.

Harris now wants to take this non-profit procedure and donate the refurbished computers to the families of local soldiers. Qualifying recipients will have an immediate family member stationed outside the continental United States and must not currently own a computer.

To make this a reality for the troops, computer donations are needed. These donations are tax deductible.

What types of computers are needed? Functioning computers with a minimum CPU speed of 166MHz are preferred. Storage and Memory is not an issue, as these components are easily upgraded from systems that cannot be fully restored. Specifically, what can be used are:

Computers (preferably with Operating System and Driver Disks)
Monitors
Printers
Keyboards
Mice
Speakers

Items that cannot be refurbished because of slow speed, or beyond reasonable repair, can be used to provide parts to repair other systems - or can be sold, with the proceeds used to purchase speakers, cables, ink cartridges, etc. to complete systems for distribution.

The Computer Wizard and FUTR.org, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation are located at:

2804 Regal Rd, Ste 105
Plano, TX 75075
972.781.0011

  • FUTR announces its first fundraiser, a Computer Yard Sale to be held July 13, 2002. The sale will take place at the company offices at 2804 Regal Road in the heart of Plano, Texas and will run from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
  • FUTR solicits bilingual volunteers. As a large percentage of our recipients are hispanic, we need English/Spanish-speaking volunteers who are computer-literate, preferably computer consultants, to aid us in tutoring and occasionally troubleshooting with some of our Spanish-speaking recipients. Interested applicants can reach FUTR at 972.781.0011.
